Cannabinol – The Cannabinoid That Helps You Sleep

cannabinol

Many Americans are turning to medicinal marijuana for answers to health issues ranging from pain management to sleep. And, while marijuana itself remains illegal in most of the United States, there are many cannabis-derived products which are legal and can reportedly be used to treat a wide array of ailments.

Cannabinol (CBN) is an increasingly popular cannabinoid that can reportedly treat and alleviate the symptoms of many conditions, from muscle and joint pain to insomnia and various skin ailments.

What is Cannabinol?

Before looking at where to buy Cannabinol and how it compares to the alternatives, it makes sense to explain what exactly it is, as it is still relatively unknown.

CBN is a cannabinoid that has very strong sedative properties, and, as such, it is often referred to as the “sleepy cannabinoid.” In other words, it is a compound found in marijuana which can be extracted and sold as an isolated product, usually as an oil, tincture or cream.

CBN as a Sedative

As mentioned, CBN is a very potential sedative, which makes it useful in the treatment of sleep-related ailments, such as insomnia, in addition to various other conditions which have symptoms that can be relieved through the action of a sedative.

As you’re well aware, there are plenty of prescription and over the counter sleeping drugs out there, but Cannabinol’s unique selling point is that it’s several times stronger than most of the alternatives and has fewer known side effects.

If you are taking CBN as a sedative, it’s best to take it as an oil, tincture or vape oil, as this will provide the quickest and most effective relief.

Other Uses

Cannabinol can be used to treat a wide array of other ailments, such as various skin conditions, joint and muscle pain, epilepsy, and, according to some research, even cancer.

CBN also has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which unlock countless other potential medicinal applications.

CBN vs CBD

Cannabidiol (CBD) is another cannabinoid and it can be considered a rival of CBN, as they have some overlapping uses. However, there are some key differences between the two.

Firstly, CBD is a major cannabinoid, which means it is present in large quantities in marijuana. On the other hand, CBN is a minor cannabinoid and is only formed when another cannabinoid degrades via the process of oxidation.

Secondly, CBD is non-psychoactive, so taking it does not induce a high, whereas CBN is believed to be “mildly psychoactive”. However, this is by no means gospel, as some research suggests that CBN isn’t psychoactive at all.

Another important difference between the two is the nature of the two markets. While CBN is quite new on the scene and the market for CBN products is still in its infancy, the mark for CBD oils and other similar products is much larger and far more developed, so it’s easier to find a reputable brand and supplier for the latter.

Is CBN Legal?

Cannabinol is legal through the United States and a few other countries, such as Canada and Israel. However, it has not yet been legalized in most of Europe and Asia (including many countries where CBD is legal), so it is not possible to purchase or produce CBN products there.

The reason why some governments which have legalized CBD have opted against doing the same for CBN is due to the latter being psychoactive (in other words, high inducing.)

Where Can I Buy Cannabinol?

As the market for CBN products is still quite young, it can be quite difficult to find a trusted brand (in-store or online.)

However, more suppliers and brands are entering the market, and we are reviewing the most promising CBN products as they are released so you know which brands are worth trying and which aren’t.
